Artificial intelligence is accelerating both technological advances and threat scenarios in IT security so rapidly that conventional Managed Security Services contracts with fixed terms are becoming increasingly inadequate.
The technological pace of artificial intelligence is driving a fundamental shift in the business model of Managed Security Services Providers. Classic, long-term contracts with immutable service definitions are coming under pressure because both the available technological capabilities and the threat landscape are changing significantly faster through AI deployment than in previous phases of IT security.
For CISOs, this means a growing discrepancy between what is defined in the contract and what is available or necessary on the market. A three-year MSSP contract may no longer cover the relevant technologies or threats that arise from AI-enabled attackers or can be detected by AI systems after just twelve months.
This places special demands on contract design and governance: CISOs must establish clauses for regular reviews and adaptation mechanisms to ensure that the MSSP service does not become technologically outdated or strategically inappropriate. At the same time, the need grows for transparency about how the provider itself deploys AI systems and what quality and security these provide.
