Agentic AI in Practice: Only 17 Percent of Organizations Deploy AI Agents Productively

Bottom line: Only 17 percent of organizations use AI agents productively, while regulation and security standards are still being developed.

Despite high expectations for autonomous AI agents, only 17 percent of organizations have deployed them in production to date. Regulatory and security standards for agentic AI are still lacking for many organizations.

The adoption rate of AI agents remains significantly behind expectations. Only 17 percent of surveyed organizations are currently deploying autonomous AI agents productively, while the remaining 83 percent are still in evaluation or pilot phases or are not using this technology.

For CTOs, this represents a central tension: on the one hand, AI agents promise significant productivity gains through automation of complex decision-making and execution processes. On the other hand, autonomous systems require clear control and governance mechanisms to minimize risks. The frameworks necessary for this – both on the regulatory side and in the cybersecurity domain – are not yet uniformly established or standardized.
