The European Commission has adopted official guidelines on the transparency obligations for AI systems under Article 50 of the EU AI Act. The requirements apply from 2 August 2026 and are intended to help providers and deployers with consistent implementation.
The EU AI Act distinguishes four risk categories for AI systems. One of these comprises systems with transparency risks, which fall under Article 50 of the Act and trigger specific disclosure obligations. These transparency obligations become binding from 2 August 2026.
The European Commission has adopted the guidelines for practical implementation of these obligations. They serve as guidance for national authorities, AI providers and deployers. The aim is uniform, effective, proportionate and consistent compliance with the transparency requirements.
The guidelines for implementing Article 50 are available for download and are supplemented by question-and-answer collections, fact sheets and a code of conduct on transparency for AI-generated content.
