In a nutshell: The Claude apps gateway replaces individual credentials per developer with a centralized access point featuring identity, policy, telemetry, routing, and spend-cap functions.
Anthropic is launching the Claude apps gateway for AWS, a self-hosted control instance for centralized management of access, costs, and policies for Claude Code and Claude Desktop across developer teams.
Organizations deploying Claude Code and Claude Desktop at developer scale require central control over access, costs, and policies. Historically, this demanded manual management: each developer needed individual credentials, configurations had to be distributed manually, and spend tracking was fragmented. The Claude apps gateway for AWS, deployable as in-Bedrock or Platform-on-AWS, addresses this management gap through a single control point.
The gateway ships directly in the Claude Code CLI and runs stateless in a container with a PostgreSQL backend for session state and rate-limit counters. It manages five core functions: (1) Identity via any OpenID Connect provider with browser SSO and short-lived CLI tokens; (2) policy definition on the server with automatic client enforcement upon login, configurable per IdP group; (3) telemetry via OpenTelemetry Protocol to CloudWatch, Prometheus, or third-party platforms under full enterprise control; (4) request routing to Amazon Bedrock or Claude Platform on AWS with optional failover across regions or accounts; (5) spend limits per day, week, month at organization, group, or user level with automatic request blocking upon threshold breach.
For identity workflows, existing IdP integration is leveraged: grant access by adding users to the IdP, revoke by removal with token expiry after configurable lifetime (default one hour). No long-term secrets on developer systems. For Bedrock deployment, inference requests remain in AWS regions under Bedrock data protection; in Platform-on-AWS mode, requests are processed by Anthropic. Configuration occurs via a single YAML file with environment-variable-based secrets.
