Danish company FRITS AI ApS has released GDPRchat — an AI assistant based on Mistral AI models and Hetzner infrastructure in Germany. The system aims to offer a data protection-compliant European alternative to US-based chatbots.
GDPRchat was developed by technologist Frits Lyneborg and backed by Danish entrepreneur Lars Kolind. The platform leverages language models from French company Mistral AI as well as image generation models from Black Forest Labs. All data processing takes place via Hetzner data centers in Germany, remaining fully within EU territory.
The service completely forgoes analytics services, third-party tracking systems and advertising networks, according to the company. For web searches, GDPRchat uses the Brave search engine, with personal identifiers such as IP addresses removed before transmission. Users can request information about their stored data in accordance with GDPR or request account deletion. This approach responds to European concerns regarding the US Cloud Act, which permits US authorities to access data from American cloud providers under certain conditions.
GDPRchat is available via Google Play Store, Apple App Store and a web interface for users aged 16 and above. Due to high demand following launch, a waitlist for new registrations was introduced to gradually expand server capacity. The business model offers a free basic version with daily usage allowance as well as paid subscriptions starting at EUR 9.99 per month with enhanced features and higher usage limits.
