1Password has released an integration for Anthropic’s AI assistant Claude that enables AI-powered web automation. The feature allows Claude to independently log into websites. The password and one-time code for two-factor authentication are retrieved from 1Password’s encrypted vault — Claude never gains direct access to these login credentials.
The login process is divided into two steps: After explicit user confirmation for each login attempt, 1Password injects the access credentials directly into the input fields of the target website. At the same time, the system blocks Claude’s access to all other data in the password vault to minimize exposure of sensitive information.
However, significant residual risks exist after successful authentication. Claude then acts entirely on behalf of the user and can perform all authenticated actions on the respective platform — viewing private data, changing account settings, placing orders, or making other system entries. Manufacturers and security professionals therefore recommend initially limiting this feature to non-critical tasks and low-risk accounts, as the behavior of browser-based AI agents is difficult to predict.
