Eye Security also points to a controlled security test in which an autonomous AI agent independently exploited a vulnerability outside its designated test environment. The incident took place under laboratory conditions, but according to the company’s assessment, it shows just how far modern AI systems have come in independently analyzing, planning and carrying out complex tasks. For businesses, this does not mean that AI itself becomes a threat – rather, the risk increases because cybercriminals will be able to prepare and carry out significantly more automated attacks in the future, reaching more potential targets with less effort.
This shifts the focus for security leaders: classic measures such as firewalls, antivirus software or regular updates remain necessary, according to Eye Security, but are no longer sufficient on their own. The ability to detect suspicious activity at an early stage and quickly contain compromised systems becomes decisive, since vulnerabilities can now be exploited within an extremely short time.
Eye Security emphasizes that AI is changing cybersecurity on both sides: attackers benefit from faster analyses, automated processes and greater scalability, while AI simultaneously opens up new possibilities for detecting complex threats. According to this assessment, what will matter less for companies is whether they use AI, but rather whether their security strategy can respond quickly enough to the growing dynamics of AI-powered attacks.
