The EU is enforcing the AI Act’s transparency rules from early August 2026 onwards, requiring AI providers to label AI interactions and AI-generated or altered content.
From 2 August 2026, AI systems must provide transparent disclosure: chatbots must identify themselves as AI, and deepfakes and AI-generated content must be marked.
The EU Code of Practice on AI Transparency is recognized as an effective instrument for meeting AI Act requirements in Articles 50(2), (4) and (5), but does not replace direct compliance responsibility.
Anthropic will make hidden request throttling in Claude transparent going forward but retains content restrictions, partly due to conflicts with the US Department of Defense over national security.
The new code of conduct helps providers of generative AI systems implement the transparency obligations of the EU AI Act that take effect as of August 2026.
